(Apr 28 2012) More beta files shipped

Just shipped the following new files:

  • Limoën Zoom runabout PDFs

The following files have been updated:

  • Set instructions: added new instructions for Zoom
  • T 3500 tug: now has 4 different numbered variants
  • Cut files: GHU cut files updated with a bug fix, new cut files added for Zoom

Other things of note:

  • Shipped 4 administrative versions of the Zoom rather than 8. The other schemes are more visually exciting, and it’s unlikely anyone is actually going to need 8 plain white cars when factoring in the consideration that there will also be vans and pickup trucks in the admin motor pool.

I also added the following images to the Spaceport project page:

I’m taking a short 1-2 day break from modeling and texturing to recharge my batteries. I’ll be spending that time doing visual research for other parts of the set and watching some DVDs.

Becky: I’ve had more than one of those moments myself this month.

Sithcundman: M01 and M02 aren’t the big T 3500 tugs, they’re smaller tugs. That said, I wouldn’t read too far between the lines on the numbering. I’m going out of my way to avoid sequential numbering to ensure that there will be a pleasingly realistic sense of visual “chaos”, and to make things feel larger by implying that the vehicles in the missing numeric sequences are somewhere else in a much larger environment. Having overly tidy and perfectly sequential numbers on everything feels a bit too artificial, too clean, and a bit unnatural to me. :)

If you’re going to chill and watch dvd’s for a few days I recommend the “Thundarr the Barbarian” series. :D

The Zooms printed out well and the instructions look clear too.
I may mod the customs car into a four door wagon if I get the time.
You just need extra room for all that confiscated contraband.
Hopefully I’ll get them done this week.

These look cool, however my youngest wants me to build a rescue two first, with a half sized yellow Perchie.

On a related note, will there be a tarmac terrain tile set?

I have been looking for a good basing, and all the AFB and airports I have ever seen are all concrete and tarmac, I imagine the same holds for a spaceport, or shuttle hub.

I tried re-shading one of your wastelands tiles, but I am graphically challenged :)

    Just a thought!

Northerheathen: I like the way your kid thinks.

Gideon: I was thinking about including a few 6×6″ tarmac tiles with the building/structure set for people who like printed tiles.

I suspect that Tugs M01 and M02 were sold to a film company to be converted into stylish, but not overly practical, APCs

No, they’re little tugs, about the size of a Stewart & Stevenson MB-2. Not every spacecraft is so massive that it needs a giant T 3500 to schlep it around, so there’s usually a variety of tractors and tugs available.

I started off with the big T 3500 mainly because sometimes people’s expectations don’t quite align up with reality. For example, a lot of people are going to have trouble believing that something as small as a MB-2 is actually rated to pull 500,000 pounds, but they’ll agree that something the size of a T 3500 is about right for pulling a Pinzgauer-sized craft. The baby tug will be done later (there are actually 2 more sizes I need to do besides the T 3500–a medium tug and a little Tugger-style dealie for general aviation.).
